Most people never came this far into the woods that lie behind the park. Then again, most people weren't considering slitting their wrists then drowning themselves in the river she knew to be down here. Lovely, no?
The key word here is "considering". She wasn't entirely sure if she wanted death more than life just yet. Yes, it's hard to go through life alone. Even harder if you've come from an abusive home in the past, but wasn't suicide considered a sin? And even if it wasn't, she was too much of a coward to try.
Heaving a depressed sigh, the bluette continued her walk through the woods, stopping momentarily to gaze into the river. It'd be so easy...

[Zukin Matataku]

Zukin was relaxing in the shade of a tree, on a high branch. He loved the fact that he could scale most surfaces with ease- trees, climbing walls, rocks, sometimes buildings... basically anything that wasn't completely flat and sleek. However, because of his gait he could only sit on some branches. He... was definitely not a smallfry.

His black hair and dark clothes hid him in the shadow cast by the canopy of the oak tree, that much he was grateful for. If no one could see him, then not a soul could see his face.... With crossed legs and leaning foward for blance, he held out his arms and latched on his hands for extra support. This tree was very old, large. It could support at least three adults on one branch, so he didn't have much to worry about. Still, he liked to be cautious.

Zukin liked the woods. They were peaceful, calm, serene. Also, many people were afraid of what lurked in the woods, leaving them for the most part vacated. And-

.... What was this? Narrowing his good eye he focused on the walking figure. Thankfully even with one eye his long-ranged sight was pretty decent. It was a girl... about his age, maybe a little younger judging by her size. But that was the thing with humans... you never could judge. Hmm. Her hair color was certainly... interesting. He noticed that a lot of people in Konoha liked different hair styles. This worked out in his favor- for he could have those huge bangs in front of his face and be accepted as an average human being... until the wind interferes and blows the hair out of his face... revealing the scars beneath.

Reiki heaved another sight and pushed her silvery blue locks out of her face. The chances of someone coming to her rescue out here were very slim, only raising the chances of her success. She reached inside the pocket of her jeans, feeling the cold steel of the knife that lie within. No one would find me... No one would care... No one would stop me... I could just do it and no one would be the wiser. She started to withdraw the knife from her pocket. It would be so easy... but... Shaking her head, she let the knife fall back into her pocket, not having pulled it out far enough for it to even be seen.
A light breeze passed through the trees, causing her hair to cascade over her shoulders like a waterfall. Reiki crossed her arms and shivered slightly from the sudden chill, as she further studied her reflection in the water, lost in thought.

[Zukin Matataku]

He felt a little bit like a stalker watching her, he'll admit, but Zukin couldn't help but envy the girl. She could look at her reflection.... He could not. I can't remember the last time I looked in a mirrior, he thought, I can barely remember what I look like.

A noise escaped out of his throat. It was unintentional, but it happened just the same. "And here I thought these woods were abandoned," he called down to her.

Needless to say, the voice startled her. Well, actually it scared the crap out of her but you'll never hear her admit it. Her physical was bad enough, anyway.
Reiki jumped, a squeak emitting from her throat. "Huh? Oh SHI--" Her words were cut short with a loud splash that followed her falling into the river. Ahhhh! Cold cold cold COLD!

[Zukin Matataku]

Zukin's eyes widened. Oh... did he do that? Oh great... He got to his feet and, as quickly as he could manage, scale down the tree-- which isn't as easy as it sounds, by the way. Once he was at the ground, he ran as fast as he could to the river. His heart pounded, and his adrenaline rushed through his veins. With the wind blowing in his face he didn't notice his hood blow back.

Hang in there, Zukin thought. He dove into the river without a second thought.

Freezing. That water. Was bloody. FREEZING. And what's worse? She could feel her knife falling out of her pocket and being swept away in the current. Well, She thought, There goes that attempt. Feeling the burn in her lungs, she decided she'd spent enough time in the freezing current, and pulled herself to the surface, having somehow wound up on the opposite shore. She'd surfaced just in time to see someone dive in after her, but not soon enough to stop them. "... H-Hey! I'm up here!" She called, hoping he'd hear her from under the water.

[Zukin Matataku]

Zukin was frantic as he searched madly through the freezing water. His hands outstretched in front of him, he clawed wildly, trying to feel for a body while he turned around in a tight circle. It was like trying to be everywhere at one time. Where is she?!

But Zukin wasn't born with gills. He needed to go back up for air. But the scarred young adult was reluctant; if he couldn't survive down here without taking a breath, could she? Just hope that she's already reached the surface already, he thought. Afterall, she could swim... hopefully. Kicking his feet and waving his arms, he propelled upward. His black haired head popped up and he gasped for air, panting. This happened to be a just a millisecond after the blue haired girl called after him. Zukin turned to the nearest shore, which happened to be the same shore as the would-be damsel, and he looked up. There she was. Safe. Soaked, but safe. It looked like she didn't need any saving afterall. Well, at least his guilt flew out the window, along with his dignity.

Clawing at the land, he crawled out of the freezing water. On the bright side, it was summer, which meant the water wasn't as cold as it would be in, say, January, in which he probably would have received frostbite for his efforts. Standing up, he kept his eye down, grabbing a bit of his shirt and wringing it out.

... Wait a minute...

He brought up one hand and touched the left side of his face, and then felt upward, expecting to feel waterlogged cotten. All he caught was his slicked back bangs. His heart dropped into his gut with an thud that echoed through his entire person. Hastily, he pulled his hood over his head. Yeah, it was drenched, but so was the rest of him. All that really mattered was covering those... scars. Though... she's probably already seen them, he thought. He swore his veins had gone from running wild from adrenaline to frozen solid.

Reiki opened her mouth to speak again, but snapped it shut when he rose from the water. She had been relieved at first, and felt a little silly that he went through all that trouble only to find that she didn't need any help. She would of apologized immediately, had she not been stunned into silence. It was brief, yes, but she still saw it. Almost the entire right side of his face was horrendously mangled. Her face showed nothing of her shock. Rather, it was totally blank. As were her eyes. To be honest she looked a little... Well, she looked a little like nothing was going on upstairs. The feeling of cold rushing water against her legs eventually pulled her out of her trance. Shaking her head, she hoisted herself out of the water completely and wrung out the bottom of her shirt, in a futile attempt to dry off. She looked back up at the male, who had pulled his dripping wet hood over his face. Well, that proves I didn't imagine it. "Hey... Sorry, about that..." She said sheepishly, an increasing sense of awkwardness creeping upon her.

Well, she hasn't screamed yet, that was an improvement from the last time someone saw his face. Clearing his throat, he said awkwardly, "I'm glad you're okay... now I must be going." This only fed the awkward vibe.

Turning around he looked at his feet and started to walk away up the river. Further upstream there was a bridge- he could walk over that and head straight to town to dry off.

A strange feeling crept over Reiki when he bid her farewell. It was a sickening mixture of dread and emptiness. For reasons unbeknown to her, she didn't want him to leave. She didn't want to be alone. Loneliness always drove her mad, sometimes just under the suicidal level. It was a feeling she'd felt since she was a child, when her parents would lock her in a dark room for days on end, or when she was beaten and neglected. Or when she was in school, she'd be avoided and called a freak, or shoved down the stairs. There were times she had even been locked in her own locker and left there over night-- When the air conditioning was broken. Friends were something she lacked, and the empty feeling was always haunting her.
Perhaps this was the reason why, it certainly seemed plausible. Without thinking she took a step forward- then another, then another, until finally she was running to catch up. "Hey, wait!" She called. Don't leave... Don't leave me all alone...

[Zukin Matataku]

Zukin didn't hear her call out or her footsteps until she was a few feet away. He even have to glance over his shoulder; he simply quickened his pace. Don't follow me, he thought, stuffing his hands into his pockets, foolish girl.

It wasn't anything personal. Zukin didn't have anything against the girl. Hell, he barely knew her, he didn't have any opinion on her. But Zukin was like a black cat. Whenever he got close to someone, something bad happened. Friends was a terrible idea. Forget a relationship or hanging around people for too long.

Just like all the rest. He kept moving, acted as if he didn't hear her, hastened his steps. God, what was wrong with her? Was she really so painful to be around? Why... Why didn't anyone ever try to stay with her? Was he just like the rest? No... She could see, by the look in his eye, however brief it was, that he was in pain. Just like her. Most likely, he was leaving for fear of the pain. She wasn't going to let that happen. She was going to give him a friend, whether he wanted it or not. And maybe, maybe, she'd gain a friend to. "Wait up!" She said, running faster to catch up.

[Zukin Matataku]

This girl didn't give up easy. He stopped short, keeping his head down. He didn't turn around, he didn't look at her. "Please stop following me," he said. "I have some place that I need to be."

Reiki stopped in her tracks. She got him to speak. That was an improvement. Now to get him to stop running from her.
Quick as she could manage in her cumbersome wet clothes, she sprinted ahead and stepped in front of him, standing between him and the bridge
"And like I believe that." She said crossing her arms.

[Zukin Matataku]

Zukin rolled his eye. Women. They were so tedious. He tightened his hands into fists, the muscles in his arms stiffening. "What- you think I live in the forest?" He said, rather abruptly. Zukin hated to be rude and snappish, but it was for this girl's own good. He continued walking.

[Reiki Kuragari]

Reiki sidestepped, blocking him again. "No," She said indignantly, "But if it were that urgent, you wouldn't have been out here in the first place. You would have been lurking around in the city until it was time to be where you need to be. And, if it were so important, why so hastily come to my rescue?" She wasn't giving up without a fight.

Zukin found himself glaring. He didn't stop walking, nor did he say another word. Hey, he didn't have to answer.
